CEF Presents Inaugural Student Success Initiatives
CEF started 2018 with new initiatives designed to offer even more support to college students set to become the next generation of engineers. In addition to the Incentive Award scholarship opportunities, CEF recently rolled out its first career development workshop and resume exchange.
On January 3, 2018, twenty CEF Incentive Award recipients and ten Engineers’ Foundation leaders gathered at ULCC for the inaugural Student Success Workshop, an afternoon focused on resume development and interview skills training. The session brought together engineering students from universities throughout the country, and professional volunteers from industries including engineering, law, business, nonprofit management, and computer development. Professionals facilitated presentations covering an array of career topics, along with practice interview and networking sessions with the students. CEF thanks the organization’s leaders and ULCC members who generously donated their time and expertise to ensure a successful event. Many thanks to members Lisa Kennedy, John Liston, Michael Naumann, Jim Treleaven, William Williams, and Student Success Initiative Task Force Chair Tom Riley.
Following the Student Success Workshop, Chicago Engineers’ Foundation rolled out its first Student Resume Exchange. More than 40 CEF award recipients submitted resumes to be viewed by a variety of companies seeking to fill engineering intern positions. Through both the workshop and resume opportunity the leadership of the Chicago Engineers’ Foundation is working to become a comprehensive support for award recipients as they work to fulfill their engineering career goals. CEF plans to hold additional student workshops in the coming months.
